My birthday is coming up and my dad wants to get me a monitor. Frankly, I would rathe have some RAM or a nice graphics card.

Suggest somethin' by nVidia that I can grab for between $200-300. I'm lookin' to play HL2/FF on all High and at least be able to play CoD4.

Well I'm giving blood today and my family has been a member of the CCF for over a decade now. I plan on trying to start trying to set up shelters for orphans in the coming years (srs).

Nah, the way I see it, ATI are better, but their drivers they write are wank, nVidias aren't as good as ATIs but they do good drivers, so y'know go with an ATI and get some decent custom drivers <3?

Whatever choice you make, make fucking sure you get a compatible motherboard for your video card... Nothin like getting an Nvidia card only to realize your mobo only accepts ATI cards...

I'm not all that happy with my Sapphire X1950GT tbh, and Sapphire is pretty much a sub-set of ATI.

I'm running an X1950GT on a board with an nForce 4 chipset with no problems. Hm.

Yeah, GambiT? I've dealt with ATI drivers for almost a year now. That is long enough in my opinion. If I gets a new card, I gets a nVidia.

Guess I'm lookin' for an 8800, then... woo!

8800 GT for price : performance

If you want the best of the best (IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for gaming, I mean...), Black Pearl (EVGA) Geforce 8800 Ultra (I think) for over $1,000 (WTF?????). That's most definately out of the question

so yeah, 8800 GT. I have no experience with ATI cards, grew up with nVidia.

also, as mentioned previously, make sure your motherboard is compatible with the card.

;)
